At one time the railway ran through town and there were grain elevators. At some point the elevators shut down and the the rail line was closed, and that was the end of poor Neelin. Recently some more buildings started to disappear so I decided to document some of the remaining buildings while they're still around. Last summer the town hall was torn down. It stood across the street from this building.

Thanks for taking the time to show us what Neelin looks like today, I must admit I was surprised, even after being told there wasn't much left. From all accounts, it was a lovely village in its day. I look forward to any more photos you may post, or further info you may have found on the remaining buildings.
No problem. I do have some more pictures I'm planning on posting. Mainly of the United Church. I have to go back and take some of my great-Granny's cabin too. How do you know about Neelin?
I am Jim McKay's oldest daughter, I haven't seen Neelin since 1972.
Hmm, looks like we're related! I don't know if you noticed but I'm a Mckay as well Hugh Mckay was my Grandfather. I don't know the McKay family tree that well off the top of my head, so I'm not 100% sure where Jim McKay fits in. I'll have to ask my dad about it again. If you like send me an email at photoniceye@photoniceye.ca and we can keep in touch.

I was able to visit the town named after my great great grandfather. While in western Canada i visited Tompkins Sask. where my grandmother and husband Cecil H Neelin began their lives. I have Neelin's in every province including Brandon Man. where T A Neelin High School was named in his honor.I hope that one day the hamlet of neelin is populated and becomes a vital part of Manitoba.
