According to this article:
Canadatrumpets kazoos G8 vow to halve emissions by 2050
Mr. Harper has convinced the Americans and Russians to HALF, yes that's correct HALF their carbon emissions by 2050! Half of what you ask, half of whatever they feel like, because they didn't set a baseline year. So that would be have of 1890 emissions? Not bloodly likely! Half of 1990 emissions? Also not bloodly likely! How about half of 2025 emissions? More likely because that's when Bush was planning on leveling off carbon emission increases anyways (also too little too late).
Funny thing is that:
To be fair I really don't think that the prior government of Liberals were all that committed to climate change either. So at this point it is time for Canadians to wake up and vote with their dollars and bank accounts. Your ballots don't seem to matter (note I'm not saying don't vote, but do more that just vote). Buy local, support companies that are committed to the environment, buy carbon offsets, find better ways to commute. Hell! Plant trees! Do your part to ensure that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is kept under control.
Have a look at this graph:
That my friends is the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere measure at Mauna Loa in Hawaii since 1960. Relatively remote and away from large populations meaning it is a good representation for the atmosphere and not affected by a large population base . For you non scientific/math types, the red line represents real measurements from month to month, and the blue line is the yearly average. The cycling is caused by the fact that most of the landmass of the earth is in the northern hemisphere. During the winter carbon dioxide increases. During the summer, plants start photosynthesizing and carbon dioxide decreases.
That graph at the very best looks like a linear growth. However, notice the upward curve that it's making as well. It's much closer to exponential growth. Exponential growth is what you want to see in your bank account, not carbon dioxide measurements in the atmosphere.
You know what I've changed my mind.... Mr. Harper, you don't even deserve a Kazoo, it sounds too party like. I think a Bronx Cheer would be much more appropriate.

Funny thing is that:
- These politicians will be dead or quite elderly in 2050
- Haper will be 91
- Bush will be 104
- Carbon Emissions will be off the wall by 2032 (we'll get to that later)
- Most climatologists believe that the next 10 years are the most critical to fighting climate change. Notice I said climate change not global warming. Not all scientists agree what the long term consequences of carbon dioxide emissions are, but a vast majority agree that the climate will change. When it comes to climate change, unknown is unsettling
- A 50% decrease over 42 years works out to around a 1.097% decrease every year from now until then, assuming a that this year is the base year.
