I don't normally repost from other blogs, but a post I saw today was just too good not to share. Clayton Cubitt's The Constant Seige had a interesting post to a documentary about Stanley Kubrick, one of my all time favorite directors.
I've heard that discussions before that true artists are truly compulsive. Well Stanley Kubrick would fit that description. The documentary is called Stanley Kubrick's Boxes. It paints a picture of a man truly obsessed by his art. In my opinion he is one of the most intelligent directors that ever made a film. His movies were the kind of movies that make you think.
As an example of his commitment and obsession to his craft, Steven Spielberg directed and edited Schindler's List in the time that Stanley Kubrick was researching a holocaust movie called Wartime Lies. The film was never made as he felt he couldn't compete with the movie, though he didn't think Spielberg lived up to his vision.

"Think that's about the Holocaust? That was about success, wasn't it? The Holocaust is about 6 million people who get killed. 'Schindler's List' is about 600 who don't. Anything else?"Anyways, here is the documentary. It's 46 minutes long, but if you appreciate Stanley Kubrick, art, or being obsessive about your passions, it is a worth the time.
